Group Correspondence Courses
In order to foster the highest standards of excellence in the practice of the art of embroidery through an active program of education and study, the Great Lakes Region, in cooperation with the Embroiderers’ Guild of America national organization, offers a selection of Group Correspondence Courses (GCCs) each year.
What is a Group Correspondence Course?
Unlike a traditional embroidery class, a Group Correspondence Course is a remote class in which the teacher provides comprehensive instructions and the students work on the project in their own time. Groups of up to 20 participants, plus a group coordinator, may register and work on the project together.
The group coordinator acts as a liaison between the students and the teacher, ordering instruction booklets, sending completed projects to the teacher for evaluation, and returning the projects and evaluations to the students.
The Embroiderers’ Guild of America offers a variety of GCCs each year. More information and a full list of the available courses is available on the national website: https://egausa.org/group-correspondence-courses
How do GLR’s Group Correspondence Courses Work?
Each year, the Great Lakes Region offers a selection of available Group Correspondence Courses to its members at a reduced cost. The Region’s GCC Coordinator serves as the group coordinator for all participants. Members may stitch on their own, or a chapter group may sign up and stitch together. Small chapters, in particular, often find GCCs to be an affordable way to offer education opportunities to their members.
Members participating in a GCC offered through the Region are invited to join regular Zoom meetings hosted by GLR’s Online Education Coordinator to share your progress, learn tips and tricks from your fellow classmates, and enjoy stitching together.
How Much Does it Cost to Join a GCC?
The Great Lakes Region covers the teaching fee for each GCC offered through the Region.
Students are responsible for their individual course fees, which include a $5 shipping and handling fee to offset the cost of postage. Each student must provide their own materials and supplies. In some cases, hard-to-find materials and supplies may be provided by the teacher, with the cost included in the course fee. Information regarding sources for supplies is provided with each course.
See the descriptions of the current GCC offerings for specific information regarding the student fees for each course.
How Do I Sign Up?
To register for an available GCC, please complete the GLR GCC Registration Form and return it to the GCC Coordinator at the provided address, along with a check for the appropriate course fee, payable to the Embroiderers’ Guild of America – Great Lakes Region.
Registration for 2027 GCCs will be announced in May, 2026.
